Congratulations on Your New Fur Baby from
Diamond Springs Kennel
This is a very exciting and happy moment when we bring our new puppy to our homes. We love them endlessly and just because. I am very happy that I had a chance to place my puppy in such a loving environment with wonderful family members! I treat my dogs and puppies as my own kids and I wish them only the best. This is why I would like to share some of the tips that may be useful in caring about your puppy.
If you are planning to vaccinate your puppy, make sure the puppy is adopted to your place and new environment first, and do it not earlier than in a week after the puppy joined your family and only when the puppy feels good.
I feed my puppy with natural food and switching sharply to a new food like kibbles can be dangerous. If you would like to do so, do it very slowly. And I still believe the best food for our pets is a raw/natural diet. (it includes cooked meat as well). If you continue to keep a raw/natural diet your puppy will never have any stomach or gastrointestinal issues! And no allergies. All allergies start after the liver absorbs too many chemicals that all dry/canned food consists of. Also you may want to try it yourself. I did and I DID NOT LIKE IT 😀
Please have a place where the puppy can stay safely while you are busy or outside of the house. Please do not use a transportation plastic carrier or cages!!!
NOT good for sleeping or leaving pets alone, but great for transportation!
Puppies should have a bed, a place for a pee pad and water. And I would recommend to use a play pan for kids or puppies:

Room Temperature
Please make sure it is pretty warm in the house or in the place where you place your puppy. Usually it is 78 F for 1-3 months old puppies.
Bedding. There are so many beautiful different beds for pups, but they all have one “but”: they are made from synthetic fabric which is not that healthy. I would recommend putting in the bed some Cotton Knit Baby Blanket which you can find in TjMaxx, a regular towel or cotton baby sheets

I I love Crown Royale. Both products are concentrated and need to be diluted.
Pee Pads. I use different pee pads: for small puppies fabric pads and for older dogs pads with absorbent. Little pups LOVE to eat absorbent 😂. So, be careful!
Hair care.
Shampoo and Conditioners
I use professional lines of shampoo and conditioners for dogs.
As alternative you can use shampoo and conditioner for humans:
Pantene Pro-V Smooth & Sleek Conditioner
Pantene Pro-V Smooth & Sleek Shampoo
Please DO NOT USE any shampoo before reading the ingredients section! It can have chlorine and other harsh chemicals that can damage not only yorkie silky hair but skin as well.
Brushes and Combs. I use Mars Professional Grooming Brush for Dogs and Cats. (8.5″, 1 ” stainless steel Pins). You can find a smaller version if you plan to cut your puppy hair. I like the brush and comb below as well.
Grooming
Grooming is a very important part of having yorkies and the groomer should be picked very carefully. If your puppy gets ugly haircut it is generally not a very big problem, but if your puppy gets some skin bacterial infection, fungus or ear mites, that is where problems start.
~ please ask your groomer how they sanitize tools
~ ask to see what haircut their already done for yorkies (so, you know what you will get 🙂)
~ do not leave for an uncertain time your puppy at the groomer place. Make sure you know the time the groomer starts working on your puppy hair. Puppies can get extremely stressed sitting in unfamiliar places and most likely in the cage.
~ do not bring your puppy for grooming to places like PetSmart, Petco, etc. There were enough stories with extremely bad endings for dogs.
~ give your shampoo and conditioner for washing your dog.
Bath for puppy
My puppies take showers every 10-14 days. Please make sure you dry out the puppy very well, so he/she will not get sick.
Teeth
I use this toothpaste for my dogs. It takes time but will save you a lot of money on yearly teeth cleaning and save your pet’s health by avoiding unnecessary anesthesia.
Arm & Hammer Tartar Control Dog Dental Kit – Beef:
Nails
Start using a nail grinder as soon as your puppy is with you and do it very often: every 3-5 days, to make sure your puppy is used to it. It will tremendously help you to ovoid problems with taking care of nails. You grind the nail until you see a round dark soft spot. It means you need to stop. I do not recommend using clippers. You can cut the nail too much and it will be bleeding.

What to feed
Raw Diet
The ideal combination of products is in the table below, but I usually have three or two items on the plate: meat, veggies and one of the following: Beef Tripe, Subproducts, beef heart, big bones. I also give fruits, berries and honey as a snack during the day. There is a great store that has already premixed food for dogs like: https://madbutchermeat.com/collections/raw-pet-food/products/wr-beef-complete-mix. My dogs love it. I mix it with just pieces of beef and add some veggies, https://madbutchermeat.com/collections/raw-pet-food/products/tasty-tripe-16oz, https://madbutchermeat.com/collections/raw-pet-food/products/beef-trachea-dehydrated-3pc, https://madbutchermeat.com/collections/raw-pet-food/products/chicken-necks-br-per-pound and etc.
| Products | Gramms | % from day portion |
| Beef Tripe/Farmers Cheese | 41 г | 27% |
| Meat (beef, chicken, fish (salmon), turkey, lamb (not fat) | 45 г | 30% |
| Subproducts of meat | 15 г | 10% |
| Liver (better beef) | 8 г | 5% |
| Bones (smashed chicken necks, or other that is allowed for dog to eat) | 21 г | 14% |
| Veggies/Fruits/Berries | 21 г | 14% |
| Total per day | 150 г | 100% |
Example how much your dog need to eat based on the body weight:
| Dog weight | .7 kg |
| % of the body weight for puppies given per day | 6.00% |
| Day amount of food for a dog in grams | 162 grams |
Cooked food
I give pretty much the same amount of cooked beef, chicken, fish (salmon) and veggies as above. Puppies before 3 months old eat boiled veggies (carrot, green beans, beets, bell pepper, celery, pumpkin, eggs). After your puppy is over three months old you can start giving fresh uncooked veggies. Beets and pumpkin still need to be cooked. Beets are essential as it is a natural anti-inflammatory and liver cleanser vegetable. Highly recommend it. Pumpkin helps a lot with digestion. Highly recommend as well. I also give boiled garlic a tiny bit as it is a natural antihistamine and anti inflammatory product, also it is tasty 🙂.
Travel and feeding
A lot of people choose dry food because they believe it is convenient while you travel with your dog. Well, I have a solution for you: buy Gerber Chicken Sticks https://www.gerber.com/chicken-sticks and there will be no issue with food. That’s what I have for my dog when we travel for the show. You also can get just grilled chicken in almost any grocery store!
Treats
I do not give my dogs a lot of treats for the same reason as kibbles. It has too many dangerous chemicals, preservatives and sometimes enormous amounts of salt! As a treat I give them Gerber Chicken Sticks and some Gerber cookies: https://www.gerber.com/gerber-banana-cookies-toddler-snacks
https://www.gerber.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=cookies
Sometimes I buy Trader Joe’s cookies for dogs: https://www.amazon.com/Trader-Joes-Natural-Dog-Treats/dp/B007FEUK6I?source=ps-sl-shoppingads-lpcontext&ref_=fplfs&psc=1&smid=A3DEAMGQI3VXDS
Health
Any time you go to the vet, please remember: Nobody loves your pet as you do and nobody will care about your pet as you will!
If you remember this, it will help you to avoid some very bad events.
Prescription: before you put anything into your pet mouth, read online side effects and always ask your doctor if there is anything you can do to avoid medicine that affects the health of the liver and kidney.
Do not use liquid antibiotics that doctors love so much. It requires you to put it in the refrigerator and it makes the substance thicker on the bottom! As a result your puppy may not get what it is supposed to. You can crush a pill, add honey and a bit of water, use a syringe to give to your dog and your dog will love it!
BTW, you can ask for a prescription, if there is no urgency, and order everything from: https://www.revivalanimal.com or pet store.
I am not a fan of oral medication for flea and ticks treatment. I use skin drops instead! It is all in one!
This is the same medicine as Advantage Multi for Dogs, but without prescription! You may ask your vet to prescribe it and buy it online.
If you go to the vet, they will give your dog one medication for deworming, then second medication for heart worms and then third medication for flea and ticks treatment. This is way too much for a puppy’s liver to handle.
Vaccines
Essential vaccines are distemper and parvo which are already given to your pup with DAPP (Distemper, Adenovirus, Parainfluenza, and Parvo).
Must have:
There is a great Detoxificant for dogs in a case your pet got diarrhea, ate some drugs or poisoned with something unknown:
https://www.amazon.com/Enterosgel-Tube-90-G-Detoxification/dp/B015R4DY2O
You also may want to use, if needed :
Sometimes dogs may have digestive problems if you give too much veggie or if food is not right. You can give your dog boiled and mashed CARROT for one or two days. It is an absolutely amazing treatment.
Supplements and Vitamins

I prefer Canina brand and I am getting vitamins from this website: https://www.canina.de
https://www.canina.de/en/dogs/teeth-skeleton-bones-joints/111/v25-vitamintabletten?number=110117
https://www.canina.de/en/dogs/vitamin-supply/61/canivita?number=110018&c=73
For joint supplement I use human grade Osteo-Bi-Flex. It is much better quality than Zesty Paws bites. You can smash it and add it to your puppy food. (¼ of a pill per day for puppy)
I do give fish oil from Zesty Paws: https://www.amazon.com/Pure-Wild-Alaskan-Salmon-Dogs/dp/B00WZZQ46C?th=1
Probiotics and Digestive Enzymes:
